Yao Bin finished last with his partner Luan Bo at the 1980, 1981 & 1982 World Championships. He and his partner were notably laughed at by then Olympic champion Irina Rodnina. His athletes went on to win 21 world medals, 7 world titles, 6 Olympic medals and in 2010 his teams won gold and silver in Vancouver breaking the 50 year streak of Russian or Soviet olympic gold medals in pairs skating.
